Biblical Faith in Jesus Christ

The Incomparable Christ

Some friends of ours in Michigan, USA run an organization that gives used books to anyone who writes to them from anywhere in the world.  The books and the mailing cost are free. (The name of the organization is Christian Resources International. Last year, I was assigned to teach a subject at the Bible training school here in Bulacan, a course entitled The Life of Christ and when I couldn’t find a suitable textbook, I asked them if they had a copy of a devotional written by J. Oswald Sanders entitled The Incomparable Christ. It was from the thoughts, ideas and teachings in this book that I came up with the lessons for that subject I taught last year. I would like to thank the volunteers of CRI for giving me this book.  It changed my life.  It changed the way I look at Jesus Christ.

If you read my last blog entry, the one entitled With Great Astonishment, I invited the readers of this blog to join me as I behold Jesus Christ, the glory of the incorruptible  eternal God.  This summer, I would like to replicate the lessons I taught from that class.  I will freely quote from the book of J. Oswald Sanders, The Incomparable Christ.  I will also quote from the book by J.I. Packer, Knowing God.

So if you are interested in getting a fresh and insightful look at Jesus Christ, join me, follow this blog.  You may ask me what benefit it will be to you to learn about Christ.  If you believe that Jesus Christ is the glory of God, then I invite you to meditate on 2 Corinthians 3:18; “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The mental and spiritual activity of beholding Christ is likened to beholding the glory of God.  As we behold the glory of God, we are slowly changed to reflect that same glory through the power of the Holy Spirit.  If we are serious Christians, if we take seriously the task of “working out” our salvation (exercising and making strong our profession of salvation, our assurance of salvation), then beholding Christ is a worthwhile spiritual exercise.

If you believe, like me, that Jesus Christ is coming soon, it would be very awkward to live with Jesus Christ for all eternity without knowing Him.  There would be precious little for us to have conversations about.  But, if in this life, we have already begun knowing Jesus Christ as He is revealed in Scripture, then our rendez-vous with Him will be sweet and profound, indeed.  It is like eyeballing a friend you have known thoroughly through mental and emotional intercourse even if you have never seen each other in the flesh. Hearts and minds are knit together even if it is for the first time we lay eyes on each  other.  This is my way of helping you prepare to meet our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Join me, dear reader, let us behold Jesus Christ, the Incomparable Christ, the glory of the immortal, invisible God.  And as we get to know Jesus Christ more, we shall more fervently be looking for the blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Let’s go!
